What Does "Discovering" Mean to Me?

What Does ‘Discovery’ Mean?
Discovery means a lot of things to a lot of people. I think Discovery means to find new things. For example, if you were in a plane and you saw a deserted island, then that is what discovery is. In this picture, I found a small island with a town on it. That is what discovery is to me.

What Makes an Effective Professional Arcade Game?
The game that I played was Sphere Runner. It was made by David Carachelo. You have a rocket. You have to use the arrow keys to move the rocket. It moves on a grid. The rocket is being shot at by yellow blasters. Do not get hit by the yellow blasters. If you get hit, you have to start the grid over or the game over if you get hit too much. The instructions are below the screen. This game is a 4 star rating in a 1-4 star rating. In order to win the game, you must fill in all of the dots per grid. If you win the game, you go to the next level.

If I wanted to make this game, I would need a toy rocket, marbles, a cardboard base, levels and prizes. It would cost about $ 500.00 to build this game.
The game that I played was called Sphere Runner at:

Design Brief
What is the Concept Design of My Crusie Arcade Game?
Our arcade game is called Cat and Dog Chase. In our marble run game, you have 3 levels. We give you the choice of which one you want to do. There are easy, medium and hard levels. What you want to know is if you do not shoot at the right time, you will fall off of the guard rail! We will have the instructions on the right hand side of our game. Cat and Dog Chase is a 4 star difficulty out of a 1-4 rating. In order to win our game, you must make it to the end of the marble run without falling off the track. If you win by getting the marble in the 50, 75, or 100 tube, you get a prize. If you land in LOSE, you do not get a prize.

Our blueprint shows that our game has 2 obstacles, the looper and the twister. We have an opening in the back that we go into to get the marbles. We also have a dog release, levels, and our title will be on the top of our game.

In order to build this game we need marbles, windows, marble runs, and Coke bottles. It would take about 5 weeks to build. This game is a little hard for little kids, but it is very fun! I can see that we will have trouble installing the plexi-glass. We see that the marble run pieces are not connecting very well.

What were the Results of Testing Our Game?
Examiner: Mr. Holgate

Praise: A very good idea for a game. Very good display case. Exciting to play.

Question: Have considered making it less complicated? Make sure the prize/ chances are even or slightly more likely to get a loser prize.

Polish: Make sure your catch tray works well.

Student Comment: Thanks for examining our game, Cat and Dog Chase. I am glad that it looks fun and exciting. Thanks to you, the catching tray is much different. But one thing, there is no way to lose. It is now tweaked to a very even way. Thanks for your support.

Examiner: Andrews

Date: January 30, 2013

Praise: Your game looks very professional and the structure is sturdy. Good work! I like the plexi-glass.

Question: How will you encourage people to play your game? What will make people want to try out the different levels?

Polish: I think you need to consider how to determine a winner and how the points will be calculated in a way that is fair and consistent.

Student Comment: Thank you very much for examining my game! We used plenty of tape so the game would not fall apart. We also decided to use the plexi-glass in our game, Cat and Dog Chase, because we were worried that someone would break it. To attract people, we told everyone if you won the game, you could win a stuffed animal. The only way to lose is if I did not put the points in correctly.

Examiner: Mr. and Mrs. Eck

Date: January 30, 2013

Praise: Wow! Appearance is very inviting. I like that it’s a game of total chance.

Question: Will you be at the state fair?

Polish: Try to fix so marble does not stuck.

Student Comment: Thanks for examining our game, Cat and Dog Chase. We were so happy to see all the students waiting in line. I WISH we were in the State Fair! That line would be a mile long! We have always run into that same problem where the track keeps breaking, but we have figured it out now.

Make It Better
How Can We Make the Crusie Arcade Game Better?

Reflection on Project

What can we do to improve our Arcade Creation?

I think we could use a lot more support so there is not as much of a chance of it falling a part.

Specifically, how would we do this?

We could have used more tape so it would be sturdier.

Reflection on Process

What did you learn to do with the Crusie Arcade Project?

What do you know now that you didn’t know before doing the Project?

I know now that it is almost impossible to work without help.

What can you do now that you could not do before doing this project?

I can now build anything with the help of my friends.

What did you like about the project that helped your learning?

I liked how it helped me get a head start of life.

What could have been done differently to help your learning?

I think we should have used a different material.

A Final Reflection:

If we could have made our game, Cat and Dog Chase, better, this is what I would have done: I think we could have used more tape to support our game so there is not as much of a chance of it falling a part. We could have used more tape so it would be sturdier. I also think we should have had more people per class to play our game. I know now that it is almost impossible to work without help. I can now build anything with the help of my friends. I still think that we should have used a different material for our Crusie Arcade game. That is what I would have done. I liked how it helped me get a head start in life.

What I think went well ... We did not TOTALLY sink.
What I think could be improved ... We should have put supports on the walls.
